A Sneaker Story From The Past …About 'B'

One day, the cutest boy I had ever seen came to school with the coolest sneakers I’d ever seen.  I used to talk to him.  He always wanted my homework, but on this day, we were going to talk about something else.  I was sure of it.

As soon as I got the chance, I asked him what kind of Nike sneakers those were.  He said they were Nike Huarache.  That was in 1991.  I was 10 and in the 5th grade and my Nana was not buying me any sneakers that cost that much.  I wore LA Gear and Etonics until about 1993 and I was bitter about it.

Of course, my first job would be at Foot Locker.

*Like* I remember when the Nike Prestos came in size S, M, L, and XL.  I remember when the Foamposite first launched.  I ain’t going to hate, but I’ve never been much of a Jordan girl, but Tuned Air?  Oh yea!  I remember when those first came out too.  I had the first royal blue color and then a smokey grey colorway with red accents.

Now that I am older, I do not really indulge as much as I would like but my New Balance Made In America and Made In the UK collection is growing steadily.  Asics have been catching my eye and a few years ago, Nike finally started making the Foamposite in my size and I may have my eye on a pair of those too.

Basically, my addiction to sneakers is the construct under which SneakerHead Central was born.

Till this day, I still work in sneakers.  I am extremely passionate about sneakers from how they can elevate a person’s performance to how they can dynamically impact a person’s self esteem as well as other people’s perception.  Sneakers are a great way to express your personal style and the culture that has manifested around sneakers … I mean from the collaborations to the new technologies?  This site is going to be either me adding value to the community of SneakerHeads to which I belong or it is my desperate attempt to be part of something I think is insanely cool even though I am old and technically should be out of the game  .

Either way, this should be a fun journey.
